Warm yellow naturally draws attention

We have a couple of different Blue Ribbon Pansy mixes in yellow—which one you choose depends on the effect you are trying to achieve in the garden. Let’s take a look at them, along with the popular ‘Matrix™ Yellow’ Pansy.

‘Matrix™ Yellow’

Yellow is a warm color that naturally draws attention with its bright, golden glow. ‘Matrix™ Yellow’ is our go-to yellow Pansy, for scores of large, clear blooms on strong, sturdy stems. We get more flowers per plant here than we do on other Pansies—a group planting acts as a shining beacon that highlights whatever we put it near: a bench, a statue, or another bed.

Matrix™ Amber Mix

For an equally bright look with a more dappled effect we use Matrix™ Amber Mix. Here we have a harmonious balance of ‘Orange’, ‘Yellow’, and ‘Lemon’ that heightens the intensity of all three. When we view them from a distance they seem to morph into a radiant sunset, or the flames of a flickering fire with the waft of a gentle breeze.

To take a design in a different direction we have Delta Buttered Popcorn Mix, with Pure Golden Yellow, Pure White, and Pure Primrose Pansies. While we still have a bright gold, the neutral white and pale yellow serve to tone it down somewhat. A more subtle overall appearance results, as opposed to the eye-catching gleam of an all ‘Matrix™ Yellow’ display.

Actually, white flowers are the ones that tend to glow during the evening and at night. Buttered Popcorn is a mix that stands out in a bed that’s viewed more often after dark. It’s also a good choice for patio planters and accents along a walkway.

Of course, there are many factors to take into consideration when choosing a yellow Pansy to use in a design. Colored buildings in the background can influence the brightness of the flowers, as can the amount of light they receive at various times of day. Shady or low light can make warm colors appear dull, while bright light or full sun revs up their intensity.
